What a beautiful week we had last week! We decided as an entire Kindergarten that we would go outside and practice writing our names with sidewalk chalk. We wrote our names five times and practiced writing our numbers. When we were finished, we were able to show our inner artist! What a perfect day for this.

It was a great week getting to know Parker! We learned that he loves his family, his dog Lucy, Mac & cheese with peas, and his angry bird keychain! Thank you for sharing Parker! We have begun our Read to Someone portion of Daily 5! We have discussed how we sit next to our partner : EEKK. Elbow to Elbow, Knee to Knee. We have practiced how we hold our book, share, and take turns. Daily 5 is beginning to become one of our favorite parts of the day! On Friday we got to celebrate Jaren's birthday! He turned 6 years old! He brought in such a fun birthday treat for us to enjoy. Thanks Jaren! Ariyah Adams is our student of the week this week! She has brought in some fantastic show & tell items to tell us more about herself. We learned that she is a dancer, she has an awesome diary that was a big hit in our class, and she loves the game Hungry Hippos! We have begun working independently and building our "stamina" up to become better writers and problem solvers as we write. We have learned to stretch our words out slowly to listen to sounds and label these sounds we hear in our pictures. We have discussed and made a list of topics we can write about. Here are our hard working writers. This is the reading and writing program we have begun implementing in our classroom. The choices are: 1. Read to Self 2. Work on Writing 3. Word Work 4. Listen to Reading 5. Read to Someone We have begun Read to Self and Work on Writing. We have been using our "Just Right" book boxes, whisper phones, and finding cozy spots in the room to focus. We have been practicing building our reading stamina. We started small with 2 minutes of reading and we are now up to 7 minutes of reading independently. We know there are 3 ways to read a book: 1. Read the pictures 2. Read the words 3. Retell what we read We also use our first CAFE strategy and check for understanding (comprehension). Yay to our wise owls! We have been working so hard. Here are some pictures. It has officially started! We are off on our Kindergarten adventure full of learning, relationship building, team building, and memory making! I have already started building relationships with each student and they have been building relationships with one another! It is so exciting to watch! I am looking forward to a fantastic year. What a fun group of wise owls we have:) These are some pictures of our choice time. They were able to choose what to play with and who to play with. After lots of structured rules, expectations, and behavior talk the kiddos were ready for a little unstructured choice time. They did such a fabulous job their first week of Kindergarten! |
