Emerson was our Student of the Week this past week. He brought in some really cool things for show and tell but our all time favorite was his light up microphone! He sang his own made up song to our class and we were so entertained! What talent he has! Get this kid in choir :) I see a rockstar future. However, we learned that Emerson wants to be a scientist when he grows up. Thanks Emerson for sharing this week and being my special helper!

Ashtyn was our first Student of the Week. She is such a great helper and such a kind friend. She's always smiling :) Ashtyn shared that she was able to go see Carrie Underwood in concert a few weeks ago and said she had a blast! She has a sister named Ryleigh who also attends Hamilton Elementary. Thanks Ashtyn for being such a special helper our second week of school.
We are becoming such great writers! We are able to think of a writing topic on our own. We are able to find a "quiet working spot" and work independently on our writing. We continue to build our stamina as writers. We love to listen to Pandora easy listening stations while we work.
We are learning that "When we are done, we've just begun." There are so many things to do: 1. Add to our picture 2. Add color to our picture 3. Add words to our writing/ Label our picture 4. Start a new piece We have also started Daily 3 which is to promote independent math learners. Daily 3 consists of 3 choices:
1. Math By Myself-Includes Math With Technology 2. Math With Someone 3. Math in Writing So far we have learned many games to play during Math by Myself. Students can choose from multiple different games and when they finish one, they can take out another one. During this time they spread out around the room and work quietly and independently. I choose who gets to play math games on the ipads and we rotate these kiddos each day. There are number games, songs, activities, etc. to do on the ipad. We are loving it! We have also learned many Math in Writing games. This is another independent activity we can choose. There are many options here as well...our all time favorite is creating numbers out of play-doh! Here are some pictures below: This is the reading and writing program we have begun implementing in our classroom. The choices are:
1. Read to Self 2. Work on Writing 3. Word Work 4. Listen to Reading 5. Read to Someone We have begun Read to Self, Work on Writing, and Read to Someone. We have been using our "Just Right" book boxes and finding cozy spots in the room to focus. We have been practicing building our reading stamina. We started small with 2 minutes of reading and we are now up to 8 minutes of reading independently. We know there are 3 ways to read a book: 1. Read the pictures 2. Read the words 3. Retell what we read We have been working so hard. Here are some pictures. |
