My name is Kali Ley and I will be working with your child this school year. I wanted to let you know a little bit about myself before the school year begins… I grew up in Grand Rapids and went to Forest Hills Northern high school. After high school graduation in 2005, I went on to Michigan State University to pursue a degree in Elementary Education (with a Language Arts focus). After I graduated in 2009, I did a full year of student teaching in a Kindergarten classroom in GRPS. I then moved to Ogden, Utah where I taught First Grade for two years. I decided that was a little too far from family and friends and found a job in Hamilton Community Schools in Hamilton, Michigan where I taught Kindergarten for the last four years. While at Hamilton, I completed my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Language Arts through Michigan State University. Go Green! I love spending times outdoors with my husband, running, watching a funny movie, trying out a new restaurant, reading a good book, and taking pictures. If time allows, you might also find me redoing a random piece of furniture or finding DIY projects for around the house (many ideas come from Pinterest! ). I really enjoy being creative, which is part of the reason I love teaching Kindergarten. My husband, Andy and I just celebrated our second anniversary and we took a trip to Europe. He is a 3rd grade teacher in Byron Center. We currently live in Grand Rapids near Riverside Park area and absolutely love being walking distance to such a nice park to ride bikes, run, or walk. This will be my seventh year teaching but my first year teaching at Discovery Elementary. I am so happy to be working here. I think Kindergarten is the absolute BEST. I love this age and all the craziness that goes with it. I am looking forward to a great year full of lots of learning and fun memories! If you ever have questions or concerns throughout the year, please feel free to send me a note, e-mail, or call me.
